THE ISLAND

Clean waters, quiet beaches and a sleepy pace of life.

Part of the National Marine Park, Alonissos lies in the cleanest waters in the Aegean and boasts some of the most unspoilt and quiet beaches in Greece, many of which lie in sheltered coves making the crystal clear waters calm and ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

The Old Village with its whitewashed houses, narrow stone paths and winding steps is a feast for the eyes. At the summit of the Village is an enchanting street lined with restaurants and boutiques with some breathtaking views looking out over the island and to sea. The walk to the top is delightful and the chapel of Agioi Anargyroi and the church of Agios Andreas are beautiful examples of perfectly preserved Byzantine architecture.

Patitiri is the main port of the Island. The front is lined with tavernas and shops and the sleepy pace of life is punctuated only by the regular arrival of Flying Dolphins delivering and collecting visitors. A favourite stop-over for sailing and pleasure boats, it is a popular spot for evening diners and strollers. Amble along the thoroughfare and you will stumble upon colourful shops selling handcrafted jewellery, clothes, art and gifts, many from local artists.
